Christina Tran's Colored-Pencil Composition111 viewsThis particular piece had a long journey before it was completed.
The drawing was for my Advanced Art class. The assignment was to create a still-life consisting of things you owned and putting it together to create a colored-pencil composition. It was no surprise (to my teacher and my classmates) that my things were mostly Red Sox related! And it definitely wasn't a suprise when I added the Varitek element into it either ;) My only personal touch was my Rubik's Cube, which was added in because I love solving it.
However, the assignment took over a month to finish. I procrastinated... a lot! Being a senior in high school with a month left before graduation, I was having a hard time focusing. SENIORITIS has hit me like a ton of bricks. In one month, I only had the doll, the white Red Sox pillow behind the doll, and the Varitek sack completed. And I HAD to finish it during Senior Final Exams, the last week of May. Luckily, I was exempt from taking the finals in 5 out of my 7 classes... Leaving me with some extra time. I spent 3 days finishing it in my school library from 7:35 am to 2:05 pm! I did more work in 3 days than I did in one month! And yes, my hand was numb by the time I completed it.
I guess determination and persistence (traits that I think Varitek possesses!) drove me to finally finish it. I hope it gives joy to all who see it :)

Sports Art by Michael Macaulay240 viewsMike did a couple of murals at Granite City Electric (official sponsor and distributor of electrical supplies to the Boston Red Sox & New England Patriots) in Quincy, MA. One "sweet" cake!274 viewsCake as art? You bet!
This picture was sent to me by Kim, from the Jason-Varitek.com Myspace page:
"Ok..where do I begin...how about the game itself. I was sick, under going chemotherapy and it was REALLY getting to me! So my boyfriend bought tickets and flew me to Fenway for the White Sox v. Red Sox series. We had tickets right above the bull pen!! August 13, 2004 and Wakefield was pitching...so you KNOW what that means, the man of my dreams is right below us!!! I took SO many pictures, I probably have over 100 from the two games!! So my daughter Brittany, knowing my obsession with Varitek asks me to choose my favorite photo of him and little did I know, she was planning a surprise party for me! The whole party was decorated red and blue with pictures of Varitek, Wally and the Sox logo everywhere!! It was amazing!! And then the cake comes out!! OH MY LORD!! Carrot cake, cream cheese frosting and Varitek's a**!! What more could any woman dream of??? So you know I cut myself a piece, cut right around that plumb behind that I love sooooo much!! LOL DELICIOUS!!!"
Thanks to Kim for sharing her story and the photo of her birthday cake!!Oct 19, 2007

Mike Petty - "Not This Year"257 views"Not This Year". On July 24, 2004 one of the most memorable events in the long and storied history of the Boston Red Sox took place. Trailing the New York Yankees by 9 ½ games in the American League East Jason Varitek took the shot heard around the world, the baseball world at least, physically confronting Alex Rodriguez and the Yankees and making the statement that the Boston Red Sox were the team to be reckoned with. This bench-clearing brawl set the stage for one of the most memorable pennant races and League Championship Series in the history of baseball.
Sports artist, Mike Petty, has captured the intensity of this moment, and the long-term rivalry, with a stunning oil painting entitled “Not This Year”. Oct 19, 2007
