"Jackets Pack Powerful Sting"
Headlining the roster is Jason Varitek (.404-22-72), the nation's top catcher for the last two seasons and the 1993 Atlantic Coast Conference player of the year. A first-round draft pick of the Minnesota Twins last June, he returned for his senior year.
Junior shortstop Nomar Garciaparra (.297-4-42) joins Varitek as the only members of the 1992 U.S. Olympic team still playing college baseball. Other shared similarities are top-notch defensive skills and preseason All-American status. Both potential first-round draft picks will hit in the middle of the order.
